Kale 2021 annual letter
Comrades,
Background: This is our first annual recap of Kale, an experiment to gather people working and interested in computing, biology, energy, manufacturing. Kale publication is about the implementation of science, that’s technology. Apes applying science, that’s us, Homosapiens!
Top post this year: Tesla Full-Self Driving
Kale is becoming a group of people, but it also makes media as a product. Curation of the most meaningful content in computing, biology, energy, manufacturing on Mondays, and occasional original content on Fridays, like a technology newspaper, kind of. The goal of this content is to be useful to the comrades apart of Kale.
Paid subscriptions to Kale allow us to produce content. In addition to covering basic costs, growing our paid subscriber base will allow us to make all of the content open and non-paywalled sometime in the future.
Over time, building, growing, and sustaining Kale is less about producing writing as a service or product, and more about growing the available resources for the Kale people. Kale, isn’t supposed to solve all your problems, but as I see it today, the most important resource we can build and provide is a community of people also interested in, and working on, computing, biology, energy, manufacturing.
Kale community distributions for 2022
This year’s plan is to distribute paid subscriptions after costs in ways that encourage:
member writing
completing tasks for other Kale comrades
1: Kale will release prompts and winning essay will make it into the publication.
2: In Kaletopia #kale-tasks channel, comrades can list tasks to other members of the group in exchange for a listed reward.
Thank you for being a part of Kale, let’s make it a great year comrades.
